Welcome to the Gateway Branch
(formerly the Williams Branch)
Statement Regarding Closure of the Gateway Branch
The Corporate Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley has made the decision to shut down our Gateway (former known as Williams Campus) Branch indefinitely effective May 28, 2010.
In the year 2000, we were pleased to open the Williams Campus Branch at ASU to the East Mesa community. We at BGCEV feel we made great progress at Williams Campus effecting more than 70 youth a day. Unfortunately, our current economy forced the organization to move out of ASU East’s campus and in the summer of 2009 we relocated to Vistas Leadership Academy in the Gateway community and began a partnership with the school. After approximately one year, the Gateway Branch has averaged 20 youth daily. Our board felt the low turnout did not warrant the financial obligation.
We have notified the parents of our members at the Gateway Branch and have offered to give parents a tour of one of our neighboring Clubs in the East Valley community. Additionally, Vistas Leadership Academy will also continue an after-school program for its students.
Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley’s goal is to one day serve the East Mesa Community when the organization is in a better financial position. For more than 47 years, our 11 branches have served the East Valley. We’ve opened six of those Clubs in the last 15 years and continue to grow.
